Innozym – Efficient production of technical enzymes

Development, scale-up and production of new enzymes

As highly specific catalysts, enzymes play a central role in industrial biotechnology. They are also in demand for technical applications, for example as sensors and indicators. The aim of a project involving affiliated partners, with the participation of the Fraunhofer CBP, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is the development of innovative processes for the biotechnological production of new enzymes in bacteria, yeasts and fungi.

The approach to the undertaking is both product- and process-oriented. The development of new enzymes is examined using the examples of selected production strains. Parallel to this in the “Technical Enzymes” module, plants are being created at the Fraunhofer CBP for the scaling‑up of production processes and downstream processing to pilot scale. Thus enzymes, biotransformation processes and the enzyme production itself, including the downstream processing, can be optimized in various organisms.
