NMR analytics - Service for chemistry and environment

NMR or Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a fast, inexpensive and non-destructive spectroscopic alternative to conventional chromatographic methods for the qualitative and quantitative detection of constituents in a sample. Concentration changes can be recorded over a longer period of time and thus, for example, the course of a chemical reaction can be followed.

Fields of application

Quality Control

You buy organic and biological substances wholesale and would like to know if your supplier delivers the right thing?

Here are some examples: Additives in the food industry, fine chemicals

Product control

You produce organic or biological substances and want to know if your product promises what you promise?

Here are some examples: monomer syntheses, vegetable oils

Quantitative analysis / determination of concentration

Would you like to know whether the ingredients of a mixture of substances also have the concentrations that are stated?

Example: Ethanol determination for alcoholic beverages

Residue analyses

You only have a very small sample quantity or you want the sample back?

Example: Active ingredients in the pharmaceutical industry

Sample material and quantities

NMR spectroscopy is particularly suitable for samples that have hydrogen and carbon atoms as essential atomic building blocks of the molecular structure, such as organic and biological samples.

To examine the material, sample quantities in the range of only a few milligrams are required, which are dissolved in a suitable solvent. Due to the non-destructive measuring process, the sample can be returned to the sample by removing the solvent.

NMR spectroscopy detects all compounds of a mixture of substances in one and the same measurement. This not only saves measuring time, standards and solvents, but also allows unexpected by-products or impurities to be detected and documented.

Standardized measurement

For NMR measurements we have a JEOL-ECS 400 MHz NMR spectrometer with a temperature-controlled sample head. The sample volume amounts to 0.5 - 0.6 mL solution. The sample is tempered to 25 °C as standard and measured absolutely non-destructively. The reproducibility of a 1H-NMR measurement is more than 99 percent.

A high degree of automation allows several samples to be analyzed under identical measurement conditions. This allows a direct comparison of different samples. The measurement results are then evaluated and summarized in a report.

400 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR)

High-resolution NMR spectroscopy in solution is used for structural elucidation of organic molecules in solution. Furthermore, it is possible to follow and display the course of a chemical reaction.
