In the transition to a biobased and circular economy for a sustainable future, the state of Baden-Württemberg sets an example. A Baden-Württemberg bioeconomy strategy has already been published in 2019, providing 50 million euros for corresponding initiatives and projects in the period from 2020 to 2024. Fraunhofer IGB is a driving force in the implementation of the strategy.
For example by coordinating the "urban BioEconomyLab" project, which is funded by the research program "BWPLUS – Baden-Württemberg Programm Lebensgrundlage Umwelt und ihre Sicherung" of the state Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector. This involves the development of a transformation model and the establishment of a living laboratory for a systemic sustainable approach to an urban and industrial bioeconomy in Baden-Württemberg. To this end, the IGB is working with urban pilot regions in Baden-Württemberg, hand in hand with local companies and authorities.
The institute invited these and other partners and stakeholders to a networking meeting in Stuttgart on February 13, 2023, to deepen and strengthen the collaboration. In addition to IGB representatives, representatives of the state and of municipalities and metropolitan regions also contributed technical papers to the lecture program.
In this way, the Institute was able to give a powerful boost to the exchange between all the players involved in the urban bioeconomy – especially municipalities and industry. At the Urban Future conference, networking will now continue.
